Berkos served a three-year stint in the United States Air Force with a Night Fighter Squadron in WW2. His varied careers include, Commercial photography, Director of radio, stage and television I Chicago. He and his wife. Sally, moved to Hollywood in 1950 where he began his movie career at Universal Pictures. Berkos won the Academy Award in 1975 for his work as Sound Designer for the film, THE HINDENBURG. In 1995 he was recognized by his peers with THE LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD.
