Why would world-renowned cardiologist Dr. Joe Dugan name his ex-wife, Marcy Simpson, and not his current wife the beneficiary of his $4 million life insurance policy? Was it an oversight? Surely it couldn't have been intentional . . . could it? After all, the good doctor divorced Marcy over 16 years earlier! Kate Muldoon, who the media has dubbed the "Defense Counsel to the Stars," must answer this question when Marcy, an old friend, solicits Kate's help in battling Dugan's well-heeled widow who has decided the insurance settlement should be hers. Kate's task becomes even more difficult when the police begin investigating Dr. Dugan's death as a murder, and suspicion, naturally, falls on Marcy, who stands to gain millions from his death.
