Leiper's Fork is a beautiful historic village settled in 1790 by soldiers in the Revolutionary War who were given land for their services. Ten years later, Jesse returns to pay his respects to the young widow, Rachel, and rumors are that he is in town to develop the scenic farmland that fringes Leiper's Fork. Rachel remembers her vow to her dying husband to protect her town a stone's throw from the famous Natchez Trace Trail. When Jesse declares his love, he finds Rachel is unable to marry him.
