The year is 850 AD. In England, a teenaged monk is snatched from the safety of a coastal monastery by a group of Vikings bent on plunder and looting. Frey, our hero, is whisked away to Norway to be the thrall of Haakon, the jarl's son. As such, he winds up fighting a pack of wolves among other adventures, and finds the girl of his dreams. Darkening the horizon, however, is the paranoid Olaf and his three henchmen. There is murder, swordplay, raiding, romance, and spies, leavened by a delicate humorous touch. Frey even befriends a congenial berserker along the way.
