A German family ventures to the newly established town of Ryewind in 1880's West Texas, to set up a printing business. Gunter, 16, cowardly watches his father's brutal murder and his mother's violent rape by Red Cowan and his drunken wild bunch. After 10 years of daily thoughts of revenge and a dutiful labor of practicing with guns and horses, Gunter takes on another identity as Wade Chance to stalk and kill Red Cowan. Aided by Store Purchase (Texas Ranger), Spiro Glass, (Detective), the faithful love of the determined and hardkicking KiKi Boot, and the gentle care of Cassie, he survives his first adventure in the West that no books or practice could prepare him for. Though, his determined goal for revenge is postponed, Wade Chance becomes the wanted outlaw know as the Walking Killer, Wanted Dead or Alive.
