Of Images and Voices...... in Poetry and Prose
Kakoli Mitra
A collection of simple poems and short stories that convey images of the lives of ordinary women from Bengal, a state in the Eastern part of India. Each story and each poem in this collection tells the story of a woman. Both poetry and prose have been used in this collection to paint a picture of their lives. For example Poetry has been used to bring out the courage of a woman dying of cancer and on the other hand the story of Maya reflects the subtle grey shades of a woman's character. The guilt and desperation of the diasporic Indian woman is conveyed through the poem Diaspora. The poem Dementia is about the confused voice in the head of a lonely widow suffering from dementia. How she cannot make anybody understand.
