Kayla's Crisis: the Community
Mona Wilbur
Rejected by her loved ones, beaten and left for dead in the desert, Kayla is rescued and taken to a Utopian society. Fortunately, Kayla escapes just in time and learns the strange truth behind the Community's seemingly perfect existence where the end always justifies the means, and she is forced to make the decision of her life! I smelled alcohol on her breath, so I ignored her comment. How could she know what a mother truly feels for the safety of her child? She gave up her only child when she was born. I needed to get my son, as well as myself, out of this gruesome place. When I woke the next morning my baby, his crib and layette were gone. Panic seered through my soul! My mind exploded with fear, "Where's my son?" I ran to the door. To my dismay, it had been locked from the outside and there was no door knob! I pounded my fists against it, yelling, "Let me out of here!" No one answered. I wept as I laid my arms against the locked barrier. My heart was pounding wildly and I groaned through my sobs, "What am I gonna do?" Over the loud speaker, located in the ceiling of my room, a voice came through clearly, but sorrowfully, "Kayla, Kayla, Kayla. I'm so disappointed. You KNOW that money can buy you anything!
