Attached to the ark and overshadowing it with their wings, were two figures covered with pure gold called the Cherubim of Glory. Both the ark and its cherubim were kept hidden behind a curtain, and no one was allowed to look upon them, except the High Priest once a year. Similarly, throughout the Bible, the exact identity of the cherubim is hidden and obscure. But just as that same curtain which had concealed them was torn apart by Jesus' death on the cross, likewise do the Scriptures also unveil the true identity of the cherubim.
