"The year was sometime around 2491. No one knew exactly; neither did they care to keep track of such things. Life was more about day-to-day living and less about a date on some calendar. A few settlements had emerged from the chaos. They were not alone, however. The massive radiation from the H-bombs had caused many strange mutations... Everyday pieces of unknown old technology fell into new hands. Some even thought long-lost cities of old could be found, completely intact, but devoid of all life because of the deadly radiation. At least, that was the optimists? view. Of course, most were more cynical than that. Preachers and doom mongers claimed they knew about plots of ancient governments, safely hidden away beneath the soil. Curious explorers traveled everywhere in search of these places, most by foot, some even by ancient powered vehicles. Navigation was difficult, because the maps of before-times had changed. Even the poles appeared to be somewhere else than the previous compasses indicated. Many things had transformed in this new unknown world. The landscape was just as harsh and survival was a moment-to-moment thing." If you are a fan of Post-Apocalyptic settings, then you will love this novel.
