Many of us carry resentments stemming from our obsession with the past. Although we have every right to feel angry, we still owe it to ourselves to find healing. This book takes you along the journey of a woman who strips down the multiple layers of emotional baggage she has carried throughout her life starting with the memories of her relationship with her mother. She leaves you with a sense of hope when she finally bears it all and reveals the inner strength that has brought her this far. Magalis' first self-published book is a collection of poems that are strategically arranged in a timeline starting with the enmeshed mother-daughter relationship and the turmoil between both parents told from the child's point of view up to her adolescence, when her father leaves the home without notice and she is left alone to carry the burden of her mother's depression. The next section of this collection continues to take you on the young woman's journey and depicts her trajectory of failed codependent relationships, through her adulthood, that mimic similar patterns of behavior that were developed in her childhood. The last two sections of this book reflect the beginning of this woman's passage into her personal healing process, during which she confronts the demons of her past and present and eventually experiences the grieving process of letting go and gaining acceptance, ultimately finding hope and empowerment in her own voice and solidarity.
