Lost in the Dream of Old Man Coyote is the story of Steptoe Lightfield, a young poetic prodigy raised by a Northwest logging family and mentored in the "old ways" by a Native American elder. After high school Step joins the U. S. Army and participates in the Gulf War until he is discharged with a head injury. He then returns to the isolation of his native high country, living on The River of No Return as a hermit, reading endlessly, and making Zen ceremonial tea bowls in an attempt to heal himself. Forced by a flash flood to return to civilization, Step decides to take a vision quest on an old motorcycle in search of "the lost connection between man and his own wondrous life" and to "find the sacred glue with which to mend our broken world." Come with Step as he rides out of the high country, through the western United States and into Mexico. Be there as he stops to visit "love's ground zero," at a bordello in northern Nevada, then sleeps under bushes with Berkeley's street people before confronting Southern California's high-tech culture, crowded byways, and conspicuous materialism. Continue along with him then as he rides through the Mexican Baja and mainland and encounters the stark beauty of the desert, the love of a native woman, ancient cave art, pristine beaches, ocean hot springs, and a vibrant living culture from out of the past. It will be unlike any trip you have taken before. "Parental Discretion is Advised"
