Diplomacy: the Art of Persuasion
Ahmed a Karim
This work is a tribute to my father. This is the story of a diplomat from a small impoverished country without any military, political or economic clout. Yet this man managed repeatedly to exert influence and make a difference far beyond his country's status through sheer talent of persuasion and as he puts it "innovative action". The book narrates some of these events. Although most of the work describes my father's role as a diplomat representing his country, the final chapters provide a unique insight into the machinations of a United Nations Peacekeeping operation, from the point of view of a high-level insider. My father is now enjoying a well deserved retirement. Even after so many years, it is still fascinating to listen to his many experiences during his professional career, from the jungles of Burma to the chaos of Mogadishu, from the bright lights of Washington, D. C to the vacuum in Phnom Penh.
