Bishop Edwards: The Epistle Letters to An African American Trade Union is a moving and exhilarating story of an African American minister of Gospel who has been imprisoned for his social activism on behalf of aggrieved black workers who were recently discriminated against and abandoned by their international union. From federal prison, while greatly inspired by judicial proverbs uttered by several renowned U. S. Supreme Court jurists, and borrowing heavily from the Christian teachings of St. Paul and Martin Luther King, Jr., this faithful minister addresses his constituents (i.e., the black workers whom he had assisted in forming a trade union) through twenty-one formal letters (i.e., ?the epistles?). The topics of these epistles range from spirituality, political economy, sociology and African American studies, employment discrimination, labor organization, fraud and organized crime, the inadequacies of courthouse justice, trafficking in slave labor, the deterioration of the black family, and much more?all in an effort to defend his Christian faith and to vindicate the universal struggle for peace and social justice.
