Eighteen-year-old Bailey has one recurring dream-that her affluent parents actually love her and spend time with her. She and her fifteen-year-old sister, Amber, have spent their childhood with nannies and other household help. A high school senior, Bailey can't wait to graduate and attend the University of California to study art.

In the meantime, to foster her love of art, Bailey volunteers at a local art museum. That's where she meets a handsome stranger. She soon discovers that twenty-year-old Ashton is like no other man she's met-he's a vampire. Ashton doesn't age and has been alone for the last 129 years. Unlike other vampires, he doesn't crave the kill. He, however, is bound to Perfidia, a jealous vampire who tries to eliminate the women in Ashton's life.

As their relationship progresses, Bailey learns shocking details about her own birth and about herself. She understands the world is not a fairy tale, but there are aspects of it that fall within the make-believe-where vampires roam free and hunt to kill, wizards and witches rule with deadly consequences, and faeries really exist. Bailey is reminded that life is about learning who you are and being the best you can be.
