Kaho'olawe: The island that was emptied of all residence after the Pearl Harbor attack in 1941. Still healing, after the military needed it for bombing practice . . . way back then. (The novel is written in current time.) This story begins on the island of Kaho`olawe. It flows for many chapters on the famous Front Street of Lahaina, Maui. The Ohio characters take you to their hometown in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. The story ends on the beautiful ranch of Moloka`i. Hawaiian Adventure Romance Two sisters take a Hawaiian cruise, but with Hurrican Flossie hitting the mainland, heavy winds and shallow reef strand their boat. When the island of Maui goes pitch dark, their liferaft ends up on the fragile island of Kaho`olawe. LEHUA MalinoFeeling submissive to nature was never an Ohio way, but today she realized, it's the Hawaiian way. CHELSEA MalinoFocusing on the big picture, she was just steps away from an unsafe land, but out of an unsafe water. Even though both were equally discouraging, explosive land felt just a little safer than becoming prey in the water.
