In the natural realm milk is the sole food for newborn babies. It's the same for the newborn 'spirit'. Knowledge is food for the spirit; the first food for the newborn in Christ is "the sincere milk of the word". The spiritual foundation is twofold: the first foundational principle begins with repentance and the second foundational first principle is faith, yet many do not go beyond that. Instead of spiritual growth which for the spirit requires increasing degrees of knowledge, what is often the experience is many disciples remain feeding solely on spiritual milk, never going beyond the first principles. In both the natural and spirit realms it's not healthy to forever feed solely on milk. And even though spirit milk never loses its goodness, there is spiritual meat to help us grow, and then to reach full age, strong meat to be savored.
