The story you are about to read took place in Edinburg, Pennsylvania in 1944. World War II was on everyone's mind. It was hard not to think about it because of the blackouts and rationing of vital goods. We took a dime or more a week to school. These dimes were placed in a packet. When enough dimes were collected you received a war bond. The money was used for the war effort.

However, with all this going on the kids went about being kids. I was blessed to have witnessed the comings and goings of Reb, Dex, Bix, Chub, Crow, Weiner, Tut, Lil' Bill and The Professor. As far as I know, none of the kids ended up in jail and all led productive lives, including the author and his brother (The Professor).
