Xavier Boniface Saintine (born Joseph Xavier Boniface) (1798-1865) was a French playwright and novelist. Picciola is the story of the comte de Charney, a political prisoner who maintained his sanity because of a flower growing in his prison yard. It was Saintine's most popular work, and was translated into many languages.
