Jack Geary, a sophomore at a Boston college, returns to school feeling disenfranchised and completely disconnected from the student body. He is overwhelmed with feelings and thoughts that he just can't seem to shake. Over the course of the year, he witnesses the rape of a friend, descends into drug addiction and begins alienating himself from his peers. Jack also finds himself involved in two unique relationships, one with the campus priest and the other a love affair with a female student. Ultimately, these life-changing events and relationships will force Jack to question his raw emotions, and his perception of the world and his generation.
