With only limited amateur experience, Jamie Calder embarks on a career as a professional boxer. Finding someone to manage and promote him proves easier than he expects, but he soon learns that boxing can be open to exploitation. Jack Hyslop's interest in Jamie and the other boxers in his stable is limited to how he can make money from them. Fight fixing fuels Hyslop's appetite for gambling and when Jamie learns that Hyslop stands to make a lot of money if Jamie loses his first professional fight, he realises that his toughest opponent may not be the one he is about to meet in the ring.
