Sl-o-OW-Loris Wants to Run Fast is Book One of the series - The Loris Books. It originated out of the idea of slow moving people. In the book the character, Sl-o-OW-Loris is compared to a slow moving child. When Julia did her extensive research she wanted to find a character that no one had exemplified before. The Loris was just what she was looking for. It is a very small primate, about ten inches long, with very large eyes, wooly fur, a stubby tail tucked under, and is nocturnal. This story personifies Sl-ow-Loris as a young child who struggles with believing in himself. He feels defeated because he is too fat, can't run fast, has no friends because he can't keep up with them, which makes him feel like he is a misfit in society. His Mama tries to instill in him through a series of physical activities such as: running, jumping, swinging on limbs, and hopping that he does belong in society and he has to strive to build confidence in himself. She reminds him constantly that he can do it. He just has to try! This book is an enjoyable book to read and is recommended for Kindergarten - eighth grade.
