World Hunting Adventures of a Life Time
Jerry Gillman
As books on the field sports go, this is an unusual volume in that it doesn't specialize in certain pursuits or places. In it you will find a lot of hunting spiced with some fishing, in destinations ranging across the far corners of the six continents that offer sporting adventure. There are many places in this book that I have visited, and I have hunted many of the animals that we, his readers, can now hunt with him. His accounts ring true and accurate, shared in a style that truly takes us along with him. There are other adventures herein that I have not experienced. I have never hunted moose in Siberia, though I would surely like to. I have never caught a swordfish, though I would surely like to. After reading his accounts, I know better what the experience might be like...and whether I ever do these things or not, Jerry has shared them with me and taken me along. There is, however, something interesting and fascinating about both hunting and fishing that, I think, fuels our passion. The country, the waters, the fish, and the game may sometimes be similar and other times totally foreign...but no two experiences are ever alike. Even two friends, or a family unit like Jerry and his father (who figures well in this book) sharing an adventure, are unlikely to see things the same way, noting different details and taking in events from different angles. Herein you will find Jerry Gillman to be a keen observer as well as keen participant, observing and recounting in his own incisive and descriptive way.
The author is clearly an avid reader as well as accomplished storyteller; you will find his work well-spiced--illustrated, as it were--by well-chosen quotes from great hunters and writers who have gone before.
I know I'd enjoy sharing some campfires with him. As you go along with him on his adventures, I think you'll feel the same way. --Craig Boddington
