Tales from the Light is a compilation of short stories, essays and biographical sketches written over a period of 50 years. Author Milton J. Stier was born in 1919 in Austro-Hungry and immigrated to the United States with his parents as young child. His writings tell of his childhood in Brooklyn and the Bronx, his years as a teen and young adult and his varied careers -- including work as a kosher butcher, a foreman for General Motors, a soldier during World War II, and a teacher, principal and community superintendent for the New York City school system. In addition to essays and commentaries on contemporary life, the volume includes letters from Europe during the war and remembrances of founding and running a children's summer camp in the Catskills.
