Inspired to write Soulground for Women, I knew this book would not just sing praises but also sad truths. In order to write poetry about women's issues, experiences, and musings, I knew I would have to reopen old wounds. In doing so, I have re-entered places I'd rather not revisit, such as my long-ago, haunted place of abuse, where I'd struggled to survive as a battered woman. Also inspired to write a well-balanced book, I have written poems that rejoice over the process of healing. Consequently, I have been reminded that poetry is definitely a form of therapy. Poetry causes us to look deep inside of ourselves so we can touch our emotions and become more compassionate. It motivates us to become better listeners so we can look beyond ourselves and into the hearts of others. Poetry blesses us with a picturesque comprehension of our surroundings and the traits of the brothers and sisters we share our world with. Poetry is familiar sediments made up of imagery, thoughts, and memories that are interpreted to us in various ways by individual poets. It is the soul words that have wooed our emotions throughout centuries. It is the common denominator where spirits link despite the miles or differences between them. Poetry is the magic that unites us in our healing. Thankful for the freedom I am given to express myself, I have ended Soulground for Women with a poem titled Praise to Opportunity. It is a poem that expresses my wish for all women-that through liberty, they will experience endless opportunities. CHAR(13) + CHAR(10)
