If Rickie Ciprian were simply a former Miami Beach police detective, he might feel better about himself. But Rickie is also a former Cuban-American, son, husband, Catholic, boyfriend, and marginally competent human being. He quits the police when he fails to capture a miscreant who scams because he can and kills because he likes to. Every night, Rickie lies awake, asking himself: "Where would a guy hide that really likes to hurt women? Not just hurt them a little, but a lot, and with impunity. Where would a guy like that go?" Rickie calls this man "The Chameleon" because he can change colors, can disappear in plain sight. A perfect Ponzi scam? Lies? A string of bizarre identities? A change of personality? All are trivial for the Chameleon. As a police officer, Rickie was bound by rules. As a civilian, he makes his own rules. With only a license and no badge, Rickie never considers his own weakness. With his automatic finally nestled behind the man's ear, could he pull the trigger?
