Katerina's Song is the story of Anna Triantaphilou, whose indomitable spirit enables her to survive theNazi occupation of her Greek island during the 1940s.¿ The carefree life Anna enjoyed as a child,bolstered by an adoring father, fades during the German occupation.¿ The family's fortunes dwindle and, as thevillage is terrorized, fear settles upon her home.¿ Anna's older brother is killed, and herbeloved father, whose tales of America inspire Anna, dies of malnutrition.¿ Anna's world includes Penelope, a love-crazedgirl locked behind bars; her best friend Maritsa, an unwanted child; Sophia, the street urchin who unravels the manylies and secrets that bind the islanders; and Katerina, beautiful young womandoomed by rejected love.
