Arthur Peronneau Ford was a South Carolina native. He married Marion Johnstone Ford, nee Porcher and lived in Charleston. Both of them wrote Life in the Confederate Army and Some Experiences and Sketches of Southern Life (1905). In their memoirs, Arthur recounts how he joined the Confederate army's Palmetto Brigade after the Confederate attack on Fort Sumter in 1861. His wife, Marion, includes three anecdotes about southern life in this book. She tells many stories about different slaves and she also talks about her wartime experience.
