Gudrun Thorne-Thomsen (1873-1956) was a Norwegian storyteller. Born Gudrun Nielsen in Norway, in 1888 she moved to America. She trained as a teacher and worked in Chicago. Her craft as a storyteller began publicly through a programme at the Chicago Public Library where she shared the old Norse folk tales she had learned as a child. She lectured on folklore and storytelling at the Carnegie Library School of Pittsburgh and the Western Reserve Library School. In 1923, she moved to California where she continued to work as a teacher. Her works include: East o' the Sun and West o' the Moon (1912), The Birch and the Star (1915), The Sky Bed (1944), In Norway (1948) and Storytelling and Stories I Tell (1956).
