Henrietta Christian Wright (1854-1899) was an American children?s story writer who resided in East Brunswick, New Jersey. She wrote children?s books on literature, history and science. In 1883, she published Little Folk in Green which was illustrated at the age of 16 by Miss Lydia (Field) Emmet (1866-1952), who went on to become a noted portrait artist. One of Wright?s books, Children?s Stories in English Literature From Taliesin to Shakespeare (1889), introduces traditional songs and literary works by Chaucer, Spenser, Sidney and Shakespeare with biographical and historic notes and re-tellings of their writings in language for children. Another book, Children?s Stories in American Literature (1895), a collection of children?s stories, covers a period of 1660-1860 with great authors like Edgar Allan Poe, William Bryant, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Her other works include: The Princess Lilliwinkins, and Other Stories (1889), Children?s Stories of the Great Scientists (1894), Children?s Stories in American Literature, 1861-1896 (1896), Children?s Stories in American History (1906) and Children?s Stories of American Progress (1914).
