This book charts one of Charles' several journeys. Absorbed in what he finds, he slots in notes on contemporary Latin American life, its war-torn history and little-known facts of historic figures, uprooted and updated as he travels. The natural scenery, ways of life, cultures and beliefs are witnessed before they changed and democracy and advanced technology become the norm in the Twenty First Century. Magnetised to the road, he has the gift of easily befriending people along his unplanned journey. At times he covers large distances on foot without so much as a compass and frequently rests his head in a variety of extraordinary places. He is the first outsider to stay a night with members of the Arhuaco tribe in Columbia. His hunger for rural landscapes and the people encountered on his path, all humour and colour the pages, filling them from the beginning in Venezuela and clockwise around South America and up through Central America at a time when civil wars are still rampant.
