Edith E. Hoad
Born in 1893, heiress Princess Catherine was kidnapped at age 3, held for ransom, raised as a penniless orphan, then rescued by her grandfather and restored to her family and heritage in Romania. Following her society wedding on the cusp of World War I, she ran a typhus hospital and later, an orphanage. During World War II, she befriended Allied POWs. After the war, the Princess escaped from Romania to the West to awaken America to the dangers of Communism after experiencing the horror firsthand.
