After working in education for many years, he switched to a career in real estate. Married and with three grown children, Willis has pursued writing seriously since the 1960s. A fan of serious fiction, sometimes with comic overtones, he admires writers such as Twain, Dickens, Hemingway, Faulkner, Fitzgerald, and Dostoevsky.
