Adam Sedgwick
During his fifty-year professorship at Cambridge, Adam Sedgwick (1785-1873) developed the geological museum to international status. He hired a young Irish scholar, Frederick McCoy (1821-99), to catalogue the collection, and oversaw this 1855 publication following McCoy's departure for Melbourne, where he in turn energetically promoted geological science.
