Paleography is the task of reading the progression of the Spanish language over a 300 year period, including the style of penmanship. Jack Haskins was one of the few, if not the only treasure hunter who could read and decipher the handwritten manifests left behind and stored in the Archives of the Indies in Seville, Spain. Jack Haskins was from the "Old Guard' of treasure hunters, a gentleman first and a treasure hunter second. He was universally respected and trusted by all...even the government officials knew they could take Jack at his word. Jack Haskins was from the era when one treasure hunter respected another treasure hunter's work.
