It's summer break, and sixteen-year-old Emily Franklin should be thrilled, yet it's nearly impossible. Not only does she like going to school, but there's a serial killer in the city preying on young girls, and everyone is on edge. She starts a job at a pharmacy lunch counter-something else that doesn't exactly excite her. Until Jacob Arnold walks in. He's a geek like her who loves books and research. Best of all, she learns he's had his eyes on her for quite a while. Jacob is doing all he can to impress Emily. The perfect opportunity arises, when he overhears his rookie-cop brother talking on the phone. He reveals something about the murders that the news media hasn't yet exposed. Jacob shares the information with Emily, and it leads the two of them into some sleuthing of their own. They stumble onto a secret not even the local police know. It's so far-fetched, it should be fiction. Telling the truth should be a no-brainer, but it's not that simple. If nobody believes them, they might be put away themselves ... for insanity.
