My father, Thomas Lismore, author of The Capture of Havana, was born in the city of Bristol, England, in 1888. During the First World War (1914-1918) he joined the British Army and became a Lieutenant. At the end of World War I he read an ad in the newspaper asking for an English teacher to join a school in La Habana, Cuba, and because he knew how agreeable was the climate of Cuba, he decided to apply. He find an English teaching position at the prestigious Jesuit Colegio de Belén, La Habana, Cuba, where he taught for many years until his retirement. He also taught the language at his "Thomas Lismore English Academy" located on 23rd and I Street in the section of El Vedado where he also resided. After the Cuban Revolution in 1959 Thomas came to reside as an exiled citizen in Miami, Florida, United States. Thomas Lismore then wrote the popular Welcome to English. The series, published by Prentice Hall, was extremely successful and was distributed and used as English textbooks in schools not only in Latin America, but in Canada as well. My father became a numismatic expert at the end of his life and participated as a member of the American Numismatic Society located in New York. He passed away at Baptist Hospital of Miami in 1966. This book is a unique and detailed description of the British siege and capture of Havana from Spain in 1762. Ellen Lismore LeederMiami, Florida, 2018
