The Bishop of Launceston's body has been found by a backpacker at the bottom of Cataract Gorge. Was it an accident, suicide, or murder? The diocese asked Father Earl Jackson to liaise with the police and the media over the ongoing investigation. The inspector in charge of the police investigation is dithering, much to the dismay of his colleagues. The diocese asked Earl to investigate the bishop's death himself. Bringing his ecumenical colleagues (Fran Burke and Tank Van Kampenhuis) from the small town of Dundee, Tasmania, into the investigation, Earl Jackson and his colleagues make sense of a senseless situation and solve a "fresh expression of murder".
