His father's tragic death left that child abandoned in a distant wilderness. For many years he will face adversity in his struggle to return home. He will meet Indians, thieves, deserters and gunmen, traveling from the North American prairies to the South American Pampa. In his odyssey he will witness events such as the final battles of the Paraguayan war and the death of General Custer in Little Big Horn.
