When England's deposed juvenile king, Edward V, finds refuge at a remote manor house in Kent there is renewed hope for his bid to regain the crown. However he finds his path littered with obstacles - failing health, assassination attempts, and devious enchantresses - which ultimately force him to flee into exile in France. Meanwhile, the incumbent king, Richard III, has problems of his own. His chief supporter, the Duke of Buckingham, turns against him; rumours of a French invasion are abound; his arm, courtesy of witchcraft, becomes newly withered; and his son and heir passes away under mysterious circumstances. If anything can be said for certain, whoever comes out on top will not do so without paying a heavy price. This is the second novella in the Chronicles of Ascension series.
