STRESS FRACTURES, AND LIVES ARE CRACKED APARTLife in Briar Lane has settled down, or at least, its residents like to think so. The earth is still moving, still disrupting power, water, and lives in general, and they are longing for a return to sanitation, if not sanity. A new family has moved into the street, although the neighbours can't say if they know the history of their new home. Struggling to find her feet in Salisbury, Harriet Wood begins to meet some of the neighbours and make friends and starts to wonder if it might be such a bad place to live after all. If only her husband could be happier about it. Instead, he's getting increasingly stressed out and distant. They are not the only couple in the world with problems. When everything starts to fall apart, Harriet turns to her new neighbours, Abby and Jack Robson, who together with other Briar Lane residents, Eva and John, help to solve what becomes a complete mystery. How does a dead husband suddenly become a missing husband? And how can Harriet and another woman share a connection when they've never even met?
