Hank Turnem, a film restoration artist for the American Film Institute, always regarded himself as the best film doctor in the business-the supreme savior of lost legends-the unrivaled restorer of the Hollywood elite. But after stumbling across an experiment from 1954 funded by Darryl F. Zanuck, he's not so sure.
