It wasn't easy for a young girl growing up in the chaos of World WarII in England, particularly with a frail mother who was afraid of the nine o'clock horses. Everyone knew it was just a fable, a nursery rhyme. But whatever it was, it drove her to attempt suicide, twice. Young Amelia Norton is burdened with all the skeletons in the family's closets. Her brother's sexual deviance and her father's sad love affairs, not to mention her own feelings of guilt which persist throughout her life. This is a story based on a true family during the war when the fear that Hitler might land on British soil invaded everyone's mind and the aftermath of food rationing, the grief of losing loves ones, and spoiled dreams.
