Bhaja Govindam is probably the most popular work of Sri Shankaracharya. The verses are hard hitting, touching the core of a person instantly and challenging our understanding of human relations and goals. Sri Shankara analyzes the pitfalls of human life in order to exhort a person to examine the human goals and to pursue the right goal. He instructs the path of devotion, the path of selfpurification by yoga and the path of self-enquiry under the guidance of a teacher. The book is also called moha-mudgara, which means a hammer which demolishes our wrong thinking. The author, Dr. Aravinda Rao Karanam, who is a retired Director General of Police, holds a Ph. D in Sanskrit and he has been teaching and writing on Vedanta. His talks on the Gita, the Upanishads, Vivekachudamani, Valmiki Ramayanam, etc can be accessed on the website www.advaita-academy.org or from the you tube.
