This book intends to demonstrate the work and existence of the community health (CH) sector in Canada and its contributions to health and wellbeing, understand why it has not been prioritized to date, and make the case for teaching and learning about it as a step towards recognizing and resourcing it. The book presents a systematic approach that "makes visible" the role and scope of the community health sector as a player that should have equitable voice and resources vis-a-vis municipal, provincial/territorial, and federal/Indigenous scales. It makes a significant contribution to the field of health geography research, particularly in the context of place and health interventions operating at the sub-municipal level in collaboration with the community health sector across Canada.

The work of academics in this field has tended to receive prominence, yet the work and expertise of local level health professionals and advocates has received much less recognition. This volume aims to highlight the work of both, with chapters from both community and public health professionals and academics who focus on health promotion approaches to resilient communities (Public Health Agency of Canada, 2023). Exploring Place and Health through Community Health Interventions will be of interest to scholars in health geography, public health and community health, and post-secondary researchers working in the community health area.

It will also appeal to instructors of public health, community health, health geography, urban planning, health promotion, kinesiology, recreation and leisure studies, and health sciences.
