Do you pray for the sick? How do you pray? For that matter, how do you pray for anyone who is going through a rough patch in life? All too often, Christians pray out of sympathy rather than discernment. We unwittingly pray for our fellow believers to be healed when God has determined to take them home through illness. We pray for friends and loved ones to be delivered from adversity when God has engineered those very circumstances to develop their character. We desire to help, but end up pitting ourselves against the Almighty. Given the reality of suffering, how do we cooperate with God and not resist Him when we pray for those who are in distress? The suggestions offered in this volume are not exhaustive, but they are based on Scripture and accord with the will of God for every Christian. By praying in harmony with the purposes of God, we can join Him in what He is doing. Moreover, we can pray with greater confidence and authority because we are not guessing as to what God desires to accomplish through their trouble.
