An unexpected event that should bring joy to Chase and Sash ends up driving a wall of separation between them. For the first time since being in Krymzyn, Chase doubts his ability to adhere to the customs of that world. After a surprising resolution to the conflict, a greater threat to Chase and Sash arises. Unknown to the people of the Delta, the Murkovin are secretly amassing an army. Well-hidden training camps are forming across the immense Barrens. When Chase and another Traveler stumble upon one, a vicious battle erupts. Severely wounded and trapped in the Barrens, their only chance for survival is wild sap.
