Elizabeth Pratt's quiet life changes dramatically when her two teenage grandsons come to live with her in Apam for the summer! The widowed grandmother seizes life situations as opportunities to teach and pass down cultural values and traditions to the youngsters in her strict, yet loving, ways. Thus, Songs of our Fathers gives a bird eye view of how indigenous cultures transfer cultural heritage through storytelling. Songs of our Fathers inform us of some of the events that led to the slave trade and how the African Diaspora came to be. The story end when the teenagers are picked up by their father and shepherded through a fort where slaves were exported to the Americas. Songs of our Fathers tells the unique rites and ways of being that separates us as cultures, but-more importantly-the common values of love, trust, care, compassion and acceptance that join us as a people of the world.
