Emily Mason-Wohl, is co-owner of the newspaper in Waters Edge, Florida, with her husband Jason. Set in 1978-79, Emily dabbles in fiction writing. Her main character, Brenda, lives in Chetco, California, in 1865, when the money was flowing and strangers with a past sometimes decided to stay. Things did not end well for Brenda, who was murdered before she could run away to Paris with her one true love, Emil Chauvelier, a French-Italian musician, who was in America researching American music. Music again brings them together when they meet at a concert. Emily knows deeply that she is Brenda and Alessio is Emil.
