Addie Sinclair is fifteen and a half and on the verge of driving. She has a "new" best friend through no fault of her own and a couple of parents who need to grow up and behave. Addie's mother used to be the "window designer du jour" at a local department store until the chandelier incident; the indident that changed both Addie and her parents lives forever. Sigge, the "new" BFF, and her brother Bernerd Baxter enter Addie's life at just the right moment. Sigge is happy, upbeat and goofy. Bernerd is a serious high school actor who drives a Vespa scooter and wears a cape. The two siblings help Addie see that honesty and change are necessary for both she and her parents to heal and move forward. In a style reminiscent of Francesca Lia Bloch, this young adult novel will appeal to adolescents and their parents. It is a funnyyet serious and thoughtful treatment of an all too common scenario.
