Transportation in Central New York and the Baldwinsville Area 1600 to 1940
Robert W Bitz
This book looks at the methods of transportation used in Central NY from the time before white man had an effect upon the Native Americans, through the periods of exploration, fur trading, settlement and the changes in transportation that occurred during the next 150 years. It tells of the development of canals and railroads. It covers the gradual emergence of highways and the stagecoaches and other vehicles that traveled on them. Railroads, trolleys, bicycles and boats are all part of the story. The Baldwinsville area is covered in greatest detail but much of the book relates to transportation in Central NY and parallels the development of transportation in numerous other areas of the northeast.
